Channel Your Inner Flight Attendant

Happy Summer! What did you do over the weekend?

Me: Nothing much, I just spent hours wringing my hands about the chaotic state of US politics and researching what it might be like to raise kids in Singapore.

After I was all set with fantasy and elevated cortisol levels, I finally had the wherewithal to listen to one of Abraham Hicks’ video clips on YouTube. In the clip (and please don’t quote me directly) she said that Esther was on an airplane where there was some degree of tension—about what, I don’t remember, and there was the most delightful, kind, funny flight attendant working that day. This flight attendant was so connected to his heart—his kindness, goodness and humor, that all the passengers started to resonate with his attitude. Abraham said it was the best flight Esther had ever taken. In fact, when it was time for her usual mid-flight nap, she chose to stay awake so she could enjoy the feeling of love and connection among the passengers even more.

Toward the end of the flight, Esther said something to the flight attendant to the tune of, “thank you for your efforts to unite us in goodwill and fun,” and he winked at her, because he knew that she knew he was deliberately creating that vibe for the benefit of everyone. His attitude wasn’t an accident. It was a conscious act he deliberately put forth in order to raise the vibration of the people in his care.

I had to stop and breathe after hearing this story. I had just spent the better part of a day hand-wringing and fearfully obsessing about the future, when I could have chosen to be someone who makes an effort to regulate her nervous system so that she can be a source of support for herself and others.

Oh. Right.

Given this, how would I now choose to spend the rest of my day?

Did you know that when we are living by the emotions of fear, we are unable to access our creative, most productive problem-solving skills? And did you also know that when we are bathing in the hormones of fear and stress, the vibration from those emotions radiates out from us out into the world, impacting those around us?

This isn’t meant to scare anyone or make anyone who feels afraid wrong. Not at all. The world can feel scary and even impossible to navigate at times.

But what we CAN do is notice how we’re feeling. We can remember all of the tools we have (hopefully each of us has at least a few) that we know we can turn to when we need support. We can offer compassion to ourselves for having a human experience, and not make ourselves wrong. We can attend to our nervous system if it has been knocked out of balance.

And then we decide how we wish to proceed.

This week, I’ve been talking with my clients about the concept of sovereignty. When you practice sovereignty, YOU get to choose how you feel. Your degree of well being is not dependent on outside circumstances. YOU are in control of how and what you feel.

Ok, yes, I know, this is close to if not impossible sometimes. Very real life events DO impact us, and yes, life and things can feel out of control. We would have to be fully enlightened to not have some of them knock us off kilter sometimes, but there are still more options and strengths available within to support yourself through all the things, when needed.

AND, even when we’re triggered, always have a choice. We have to lean into our foundational practices of fortifying ourselves with options like tuning in and tending to ourselves with our own personal soul team (AKA your own archetypes, lol), we can ask others for help, reach for deeper strength and support that is unfailingly surrounding us, take some deep breaths, and then, step in and trust ourselves as we claim the truth of our sovereignty.

This has me thinking abou how often we need this kind of vibe in our life, especially from ourselves. My invitation today is for you to think a bit deeper and see how you can access your inner flight attendant.

When you find them, I know that you'll be happy you did!!

As always, please reach out if this resonates or find that additional support is needed. We aren’t supposed to navigate these waters alone. For your convenience, you can book a Discovery Call so together we can determine which solution will give you the exact support that you need at this time.

There's no obligation to just to talk things through and to just see how much impact understanding the various sides of yourself really can have in your life, relationships and in the work you do in the world around you.

I'm here and happy to help you clear the way!

So glad you’re here and honored to support you on this journey,

Carolyn
