Don’t Call Me A Martyr!
During last week’s Courageous and Creative group, the subject of the Martyr archetype came up. What happens when we have to do something hard, like taking care of (sometimes) less than grateful kids or partners, or knowing we need to have a difficult conversation with a co-worker (who honestly should already know better), when we’d just rather NOT?
The Martyr archetype gets a bad rap because we’re so used to seeing her from the shadow side. Like any archetype, however, there is shadow and light, and no, no one is expecting (or wanting) you to suffer for anyone or anything! The truth is, a lot of the time we don’t have to do anything. If taking an action makes us feel bitter and victim-y, it’s probably best to skip it all together.
And sometimes– if we shifted our thinking from “I have to do this,” to “I get to do this,” we could open a doorway that invites people to consider new perspectives, and could potentially bring greater love and compassion to those in our orbit.
This is why self-care is so important. It’s soooo much harder to bring love, understanding, delight and compassion to the world, especially when dealing with a difficult situation, when we’re tired, depleted and can’t imagine doing ONE MORE THING.
But what if you’ve slept well, connected with a friend, spent time outside and had a few balanced meals in a row? Would that change your capacity to approach a difficult situation from your best self, and give you the energy to consider how you might say yes to being a loving and courageous agent of change?

Another Courageous and Creative group offering is in the works for the fall, so stay tuned! If you already think you might be interested, please reply to this email to let me know so I can be sure to include you when registration opens.
As always, please reach out if this peaks your curiosity or you find that additional support is needed. We aren’t supposed to do this alone! For your convenience, you can book a Discovery Call here so together we can determine which solution will give you the exact support that you need at this time.
There's no obligation if you just want to talk through things to see how much impact understanding the various sides of yourself really can have in your life, relationships and in the work you do in the world.
So glad you’re here and honored to support you on this journey,
Carolyn
